Music lessons are very helpful for kids, even Einstein has approved of that, he was a wonderful Violinist and kept playing the Violin til his last breath. Many studies have shown that learning music can enhance the development of the mind when it’s taken up at an early age. But what if we’ve already passed early age?
It turns out that learning music at an older age can do wonders for your mind as well.
In a study at the University of South Florida, adults aged between 60 and 85 were given piano lessons. Six months later, they exhibited improved memory, verbal fluency, information-processing skills, and other cognitive functions. Learning music requires the use of different sections of the brain – following tempo, understanding the sound and tone, the rhythm, realizing the depth of the composition, and so on. Also, it gives a sense of achievement, performing music is a great feeling after all. The positive impact music lessons can make on elderly people is indeed profound.
