The piano or Keyboard is one of the most favored musical instruments for music learners in India. It has been in existence for hundreds of years and is still one of (if not the) most popular instruments that have lasted throughout time and has changed very little (apart from the digital variant). Evolving from the Harpsichord, the Piano offered the advantage of being able to be played both quietly as well as loudly. Most parents find it difficult to choose the right teacher for their kid, we will discuss the solution here in this piece.

Since, the beginning of the Pandemic, live online lessons have become a household medium to learn the Keyboard, especially, because Piano is possible to learn online if the teacher and the student both are well-equipped with the technological requirements, such as a laptop and good bandwidth service. Many Piano teachers from India have been offering one-to-one online lessons to students in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, and all over India, also, in abroad including California, New Jersey, Texas, Los Angeles, and all over the US, London and other parts of UK, Sydney, Victoria, Melbourne and all around Australia, as well as Europe, all around the world.

In order to find the right teacher, there are certain important points to consider, here follows:

  1. The lessons must be one-to-one, and not group classes, at least for the Western Classical musical instruments. Always go for private and one-to-one lessons. No two students are the same and it will require 100% focus of the teacher toward the student in order to have the best result. Also, in online lessons, if there are two students, the teaching duration might get divided between the students as on the Video chat platforms only one stream of sound appears clearly and not two together.
  2. The teacher must be well-qualified. For musical performance, qualification might not be needed. But, for teaching, especially Western Classical music, qualification is a must. The teacher should be a minimum Grade-8 pass, a better Diploma, or a Degree in music. This is also very important if you want to appear for the ABRSM or Trinity college examinations.
  3. The teacher must be well-equipped with the technical requirements for adequate online lessons. A good device and a good bandwidth connection are very important. Also, lessons are often not clear on WhatsApp, that’s why most professional tutors use Skype, Google Duo, or Microsoft Teams. The same goes for the learners too, a good laptop and around 100mbps bandwidth should work.
